Why Your New Year’s Resolutions Are Failing (Part 4/5): Support System
Prune your tree so your best branches can thrive.
We can have the strongest of will, all attempts are vain if we do not have an effective support system. Going against the current like your entire family trying to talk to you out of pursuing your dreams may work for a while but at the very best it will take energy away from us that we cannot use to double down on our goals, or otherwise resolutions. Good news is we can design our environment to empower rather than hinder us to respond in ways that are more aligned with what we set ourselves to do.
We never have enough time to do everything, but we always have enough time to do the important things. As Brian Tracy aptly reminds us “time management is not just time management, time management is life management”. Let’s prune our tree-cutting off the irrelevant tasks that are mere disturbances-so our best branches can thrive prosperously. And having our end goal in mind surely helps. And for that we need to commit wholeheartedly to stand up for ourselves and experiment to create our purpose.
According to an African proverb, “If we want to go fast, we go alone, if we want to go far, we go together”. That said, it is believed we are the average of the five people we most hang out with. Not sure…
