Why Your New Year’s Resolutions Are Failing (Part 3/5): Behavior Programming

Focus on what you can control, reprogram yourself.

Our subconscious supposedly accounts for 95% of our actions. And if we do not pay close attention, we might just end up drifting in our lives. According to the whims of our programs learnt long ago in past experiences with family, friends and peers. Our past dictates our future. We are no longer in charge. Our mind is on autopilot, with us sitting on the back seat, as mere passengers. All of which makes us repeatedly fail at following through on our New Year’s resolutions.

Our programs after years of taking the same neurological pathways are hard to change. We have tried so many times, failed just as many, and end up feeling hopeless as a result. Not believing in ourselves, that we could ever overcome what “is stronger than us”. “You just have to decide”. Easy to say when we failed countless times, although we really had the intention to make it count every single time. I agree, and if I had heard myself say all that a few years back, I would have just looked the other way. I was not ready.
